“We take care of everyone in the family,” says Dr. Shannon Kirkwood, DC, MSCN, a wellness-based chiropractor who specializes in pediatrics. “We love to know our patients for who they are and welcome them into our family.”
Dr. Kirkwood attended chiropractic school at New York Chiropractic College where she received her Doctorate in Chiropractic in 2016 and her Masters in Clinical Nutrition in 2017. Before attending graduate school, she attended college in her hometown of Sacramento, Calif., at California State University, Sacramento where she received her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology with a focus on exercise science.Around the age of 24, she discovered her love and passion for chiropractic care.
Dr. Kirkwood states, “Throughout high school my right wrist would always become painful, causing my fingers to tingle; at the time, many doctors told me it was carpal tunnel syndrome and in the next few years I would need to have surgery on my wrist. I didn’t want to have surgery so I searched into other forms of care; luckily for me, I found a chiropractor that was able to adjust my carpal bones (wrist), making my symptoms within my wrist disappear within the first couple of visits. After that I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor, so I could provide a natural approach to healing to as many people as possible.”
Dr. Kirkwood spends most of her days, when not at the office, surrounded by her family on their farm in Adkins. If she has down time, she enjoys traveling to new places or trying new restaurants around town.
As a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Stretch & Flexibility Coach, I specialize in improving mobility through a personalized approach tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
My training includes a variety of stretching techniques, including static, dynamic, active, and PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching, along with self-myofascial release and foam rolling. Together, we'll create a customized stretching plan and simple at-home techniques to help improve mobility, reduce stiffness, and support lasting results.
I have earned my Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification, a Stretch & Flexibility Coach Certificate of Completion through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and I am CPR certified. These certifications, combined with my passion for movement and wellness, allow me to help clients improve mobility, recover more effectively, and build healthy movement habits that support long-term well-being.
When I'm not coaching, you'll find me exploring the city, discovering new local favorites, and supporting small businesses in the community.
